The results are in, and there’s improvement across the board in the Medical Center’s Employee Engagement Survey. Paula Henderson, chief human resources officer, said of the annual survey that gauges how connected employees feel to their workplace, coworkers and UMMC's goals: “This shows we’re moving in the right direction.”

UMMC now holds five patents associated with elastin-like polypeptides, a versatile family of synthetic molecules that could change how diseases are treated. The efforts of multiple UMMC faculty members have resulted in a portfolio of ELP-related intellectual property that is one of the largest in the United States.

There are headaches, and then there are migraines, a much more debilitating and often longer-lasting pain suffered by millions of Americans. UMMC experts say that by learning your personal migraine triggers – for example, skipping meals, stress and weather changes – you can take steps to avoid them so that a mild headache doesn’t develop into a full-blown migraine.

Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
